The port of Veracruz, on the Gulf of Mexico, was not only the gateway for the Spaniards to America, nor one of the most important states of the national territory, it also gave life, more than 35 years ago to one of the most emblematic restaurants of seafood cuisine in our country, which has crossed borders in its long and interesting career: Lorenzillo’s; and that has generated other culinary concepts of great value.
Some time later, on one of his diving trips to Quintana Roo, our founder visualized the potential of this tourist destination – at that time still undeveloped – and taking a business risk, he decided to close Lorenzillo’s Veracruz so that in 1985 Lorenzillo’s Cancun would open its doors, becoming one of the pioneers of the gastronomic industry in the Mexican Caribbean, by opening the first establishment on the waters of the Nichupte lagoon, in the largest stilt house in America.
In 1988 the concept of “live lobster” was introduced and Lorenzillo’s built its own lobster farm, with the capacity to store up to 20,000 organisms and be able to offer them 365 days a year.

Legend has it that back in May 1683, when a French pirate named Lorencillo and his companion Agramont disembarked on the shores of the Villa Rica de la Veracruz, after sailing for a long time, looking for the best restaurant to eat. When they did not find it, the pirate was furious and killed prominent personalities of the social world of the time.
Today, more than 330 years after that assault on the port, we use the name Lorenzillo’s to locate this place where we offer the best food of the Gulf and the Caribbean as a precaution in case one day a hungry pirate should happen to return. Lorenzillo’s, which opened its doors in June 1979, has marked a turning point in the culinary and social life of its locations.
